Unlike the Articles of confederation a centralized executive branch would act military as commander in chief, conduct the foreign policy and balance out the other two branches of Government.
The newly established federal court system had the power to resolve disputes between states, uniting the nation under one constant law.
Congress was now divided into two separate sections, the senate with equal representation of states and the House of Representatives which assigned delegates according to population. This congress had the power to levy taxes, and mediate interstate trading and affairs. Congress also had some power to regulate foreign policy as all treaties had to be approved by them.
Three fourths of the states must agree to amend the constitution, which allowed for much easier change to the document.
